Charity Wine Auction has Record Year; Raises over $875,000
July 1, 2008
JACKSON HOLE, WYOMING – The 14th annual Jackson Hole Wine Auction, benefiting the world renowned Grand Teton Music Festival, once again featured a spectacular multi-day food, wine, and auction experience on June 26, 27, and 28, 2008. Special guests included Neal Martin and Antonio Galloni of The Wine Advocate and over thirty featured chefs and vintners from around the world. For three days, this small Wyoming community was an international showcase of legendary names in food and wine, attracting over 600 guests, who joined together to support the local education and outreach programs of the Grand Teton Music Festival. The silent and live auctions and Lexus Raffle set a new record for the event, raising over $875,000 for the beneficiary.
Jackson Hole Wine Auction was proud to receive additional support from Deutsche Bank, Four Seasons Resort Jackson Hole, Lexus, Shooting Star, Terra Resort Group, and XOJET as its Grand Sponsors.
Fine wines and fine adventures dominated the bidding during the Live Auction. A special dinner with Robert M. Parker, Jr. of The Wine Advocate, featuring 1982 Bordeaux from his personal cellar, was the top auction lot of the evening, garnering a winning bid of $40,000. Other highlights included five-hours of flight time with XOJET, an evening of classic wines at Christie’s in London with The Wine Advocate’s Neal Martin, a Harlan Estate Magnum Collection including a stay at Meadowood, and an exclusive seven-night trip aboard ResidenSea’s The World! As a grand finale to the Live Auction, a lucky raffle winner walked away as the proud new owner of a Lexus LX 570 – quite an exciting way to kick-off the Gala Dinner portion of the evening.
Throughout the weekend, guests enjoyed a wealth of fine food and wine from the illustrious list of visiting vintners and chefs. On Thursday, June 26, generous supporters of the Wine Auction welcomed guests into their homes for an intimate dinner featuring a five-course meal prepared by one of the star chefs, while tasting specially paired wines from one of the guest wineries. Festivities continued on Friday, when many Wine Auction patrons participated in exclusive wine seminars moderated by Special Guests Neal Martin and Antonio Galloni. These tastings offered unique glimpses into the winemaking practices and wines of featured vintners including Pierre Lurton from the venerable Château Cheval Blanc and Château d’Yquem and Don Weaver of Harlan Estate, Doug Shafer of Shafer Family Vineyards, and Steve Pride of Pride Mountain Vineyards, to name just a few. Friday night also welcomed guests to the Four Seasons Resort Jackson Hole for the Taste of Jackson Hole – a lively food and wine tasting event that has become bigger and better every year.
The weekend culminated with the Auction and Gala Dinner on Saturday at Shooting Star, where patrons had the opportunity to visit with featured chefs and vintners again and bid upon an exclusive array of auction items. With a gorgeous backdrop of the Teton Mountain Range and under the expanse of Wyoming skies, guests sampled signatures dishes and wines from the chefs and vintners, while having the chance to mix with the masters themselves. Few other charity wine auctions offer so many opportunities for personal interaction with headlining stars, all while indulging in their signature tastes; it’s truly an exceptional experience, unrivaled in its intimacy and offerings.
The Jackson Hole Wine Auction extends our most sincere thanks to our sponsors, volunteers, bidders, special guests, chefs, and vintners. A unique wine dinner and auction will return in early summer 2009, with the multi-day event returning in summer of 2010. Please visit our website at www.jhwa.org for information.
