Gustav Mahler’s music was strongly influenced by his extraordinary love of
the earth and nature – in fact, he wrote many of his pieces in a quiet cabin
in the Austrian Alps. Here, in our very own Alpine setting, Donald
Runnicles and the Festival orchestra take you on a transcendent journey
through Mahler’s Ninth Symphony, the composer’s final complete symphony and
one of his most intense and greatest works. Vaughan Williams pays homage to
the 16th century English composer with his Thomas Tallis fantasy.
