Destination: Austria as Music Director Donald Runnicles launches the Festival’s 2010 Summer Season with masterpieces by three composers identified with the world’s most glamorous musical capital—Vienna. Brahms’ powerhouse Tragic Overture sets a dramatic stage for Alban Berg’s emotionally compelling Violin Concerto, dedicated “To the Memory of an Angel,” and performed by young Japanese award-winner, Akiko Suwanai. Finally, the four most famous notes of classical music close the evening as the Festival Orchestra performs Beethoven’s iconic Fifth Symphony.
