RAVEL
Piano Concerto in G major
RACHMANINOFF
Symphony No. 2
Canadian pianist Louis Lortie joins the Festival Orchestra to perform
Ravel’s piano concerto in G, a piece that is a showcase for virtuosic talent
and is in some parts strongly influenced by jazz harmonies and rhythms of
the 1920’s. The impressionistic sounds of Debussy and sweeping romanticism
of Rachmaninoff book-end the program – what a beautiful way to close the
2008 summer season!
